Diary Report - First Entry

What a roller coaster ride!

A few weeks ago a conversation struck up in the Evesham & Pershore Freecycle cafe about the use of single use plastic bags. A group of us decided to get together and launch a campaign to 'reduce the use' of single use carrier bags in Evesham.

The following day the Observer contacted me to find out what we wanted to acheive resulting in us getting front page coverage for the campaign in that Wednesday's edition.

The resulting response was amazing, we were immediatly conatacted by Wychavon District Council, Worcestershire County Council and JUTExpo among others, all to support the campaign.

Jutexpo have offered full support, all we have to do is ask. They produce a smashing range of bags, and with luck you will be seeing the Evesham Bagbusters jute bag on the streets of Evesham very soon. I will update you with further information on where you can get one shortly.

We have a website, the address is www.eveshambagbusters.org.uk. the site is currently under construction, but please drop by and check on our progress, we have a fabulous webmaster who has offered his services completely free of charge.

We also have a Yahoo group, Evesham Bag Busters, please join the group and let us know your views and thoughts.

We already have a few traders signed up, with promises of more, we are really pleased with how it's all been going.

If you would like to help in anyway, be it big or small, please email us at info@eveshambagbusters.org.uk to let us know. It would be great if you could let us know what you would like to do to help ie. could you help by talking to traders to get them to pledge support? Are you qualified to give us legal advice?  Would you like to be our Treasurer?  Are you interested in fundraising? Any anything that
could be of help even if it's just licking envelopes.

EBB are bag busters, are you??

So I take it you don't like single-use bags? What a bunch of Bag Monster Busters! There's another blog for people who want to be entertained and informed about the bag crisis: http://www.BagMonsterBusters.com

Nobody seems to want us around anymore... It's hard being a Bag Monster in the Age of Bag Bans! I can't even get a job because of reusable ChicoBags. I started off as one plastic bag that got stuffed under a nasty kitchen sink. Over the next year, 500 other bags were stuffed in there with me: That's the number of bags an average American throws out in a year. There wasn't enough space under the sink and it was awful: So we banded together and made a break for it before we were recycled. Since then, all Bag Monsters have been banned from San Francisco. Their anti-Bag Monster agenda is spreading around the world. If your community is Bag Monster friendly, please notify me... Maybe I could stay under your kitchen sink for a while? Just ‘till I get back on my feet? *whimper* At least read my blog BagMonster.com to get a better understanding of my plight... Maybe you'll help me to get endangered species protection, eh? I am a dying breed you know.

It's easy to adopt a healthy reusable bag habit and eliminate Bag Monsters! Single-use bags are the poster child of wastefulness and they are creating Bag Monsters. You might have one under your kitchen sink, drawer, or closet... you know... the bag of bags you never get around to recycling? Yeah. Those ones. They've come to life to seek revenge for the San Francisco bag ban and the flood of public support for reusable bags. See the footage of one such attack at BagMonsterBusters.com. But do not feed them, you will provoke their appetite for single-use grocery bags, marine animals and landfill space!

It's easy (and sexy) to be a Bag Monster Buster! We always keep reusable ChicoBags with us to fend off single-use bags that mutate into Bag Monsters, we eliminate Bag Monsters from under kitchen sinks and in drawers at home, and we support sensible bag laws that protect public health.

Kool! Well done!!! That's really great. I go jogging and cycling along the cycle track where I live regularly. Anyway, there's a retail park next to it and there are so many plastic bags caught up in the trees along the path - hundreds of them! Surely the shops have a moral, if not legal, responsibility to clean up.
