• Update 7/2/8

Well I thought it was time I gave you all another update as to how things are going.

I do believe that I used the term 'Rollercoaster Ride' in my last update, I know I'm in serious danger of being repetative, but it still feels like a Rollercoaster Ride, we don't seem to have had time to draw breath yet!

We have signed up more shops in the town centre, including 2 chains, not the biggies, but chains none the less, and I can't tell you what an acheivement that is for the team.

We have a new web address which is www.eveshambagbusters.org.uk, we are amazingly lucky to have a professional web designer building the site for us totally free of charge. The site is under construction as we speak, but he has put up a basic site so that you have something to read while he works on the posh one.

Last week Mike and I had a meeting with The Best of Evesham website owner, Alan Jones, who put forward a proposal to work with us on a project for reusable bags. We took his proposal to the Committee, and we were all in favour of Alans proposal, so hopefully you should be able to buy a joint BofE and EBB bag soon.

Mike and I also went to the VECTA (Vale of Evesham Commerce and Tourism Association) Open Forum at the Vale Golf Club, where we made some interesting contacts. Mike and I will be delivering a presentation to VECTA at their AGM at the end of February.

Mike has also met with the Mayor, who is supporting our campaign, and will be coming along to the launch (more details in a moment!).

Yesterday Caroline (our researcher) forwarded a snippet from the Scotsman, reporting that Tesco in North Berwick have ditched the single use carrier bag , so whats good for North Berwick, I thought to myself....... I managed to hold of the name of the top bod in
Corporate Responsibilty for Tesco UK, dropped him an email, and 10 minutes later my phone rang, it was said top chap from CR! After I'd picked myself up off the floor, we had a good chat and he informed me that he was passing our details to one of his colleagues, who would contact us within the next few days. So watch this space!

    So onto THE LAUNCH!

Put 1st of March in your diary as the day you can purchase your very own Evesham Bagbusters jute bag, and remember these bags are a limited edition, so get in and get yours before we sell out! We are having 2 stands, one in the market square, and one by the Bridge Street doors in the Riverside Shopping Centre, come along and have a look at the other merchandise we will be selling. Also make sure you buy your raffle tickets! We have some fantastic prizes including a portrait of the winner (or the winners beloved, offspring, parent etc) painted by local artist Mike Bagshaw, a sitting with professional photographer Paul Beard with a 10x8 print, dinner for 2 at the Riverside Hotel and too many more to mention. If you would like to buy some raffle tickets prior to the launch, please email info@eveshambagbusters.org.uk.

Thats all for now, we look forward to seeing you all on March the 1st!

    EBB are bagbusters, are you???

  • Diary Report - First Entry

    What a roller coaster ride!

A few weeks ago a conversation struck up in the Evesham & Pershore Freecycle cafe about the use of single use plastic bags. A group of us decided to get together and launch a campaign to 'reduce the use' of single use carrier bags in Evesham.

The following day the Observer contacted me to find out what we wanted to acheive resulting in us getting front page coverage for the campaign in that Wednesday's edition.

The resulting response was amazing, we were immediatly conatacted by Wychavon District Council, Worcestershire County Council and JUTExpo among others, all to support the campaign.

Jutexpo have offered full support, all we have to do is ask. They produce a smashing range of bags, and with luck you will be seeing the Evesham Bagbusters jute bag on the streets of Evesham very soon. I will update you with further information on where you can get one shortly.

We have a website, the address is www.eveshambagbusters.org.uk. the site is currently under construction, but please drop by and check on our progress, we have a fabulous webmaster who has offered his services completely free of charge.

We also have a Yahoo group, Evesham Bag Busters, please join the group and let us know your views and thoughts.

We already have a few traders signed up, with promises of more, we are really pleased with how it's all been going.

If you would like to help in anyway, be it big or small, please email us at info@eveshambagbusters.org.uk to let us know. It would be great if you could let us know what you would like to do to help ie. could you help by talking to traders to get them to pledge support? Are you qualified to give us legal advice?  Would you like to be our Treasurer?  Are you interested in fundraising? Any anything that
could be of help even if it's just licking envelopes.

EBB are bag busters, are you??
